K is for Kids Clothes: A Decluttering Project

We recently moved after selling our home. I quickly realized that we could no longer store all of our belongings at the new place so I've been decluttering AGAIN.

This week we brought all the KIDS clothing tubs inside to sort by size. I won't be having any babies any time in the near future, because I am divorced so it is time to "LET IT GO." I saved these clothes for years hoping to have a second child.

My prayer is that I will be able to sell everything quickly so that I can start a new project. I am pulling out only a few items attached to fond memories. I am a bit overwhelmed with this project, because this is just the tip of the iceberg and it's so hard to say goodbye. I know . . . it sounds silly but it is true. Wish me luck!

C is for Crafts: Autumn Handprint Wreath and Pumpkin

We visited our local library for an Arts-n-Crafts day. My daughter really enjoyed the crafts so I wanted to share them with you all. It may be something you can do during Thanksgiving week. Alyssa added things she was thankful for on her handprints.

Wordless Wednesday: Pumpkin Patch

We took a trip to a small Pumpkin Patch yesterday. We always have fun choosing our pumpkins in October. Alyssa found a baby pumpkin she REALLY wanted. She plans on making it her pet or baby by adding sticker facial features. We also found a smaller white pumpkin to paint in addition to a larger one to carve.

Wordless Wednesday: 2015 Fair Fun

This has been a busy yet fun week for us! We went to the Comal County Fair on Wednesday. I ran into two students from my student teaching days. They were 20 and 21 years old now! It was a blessing to see them. We watched John ride a bull. Alyssa preferred riding the pony. Chandler gave Alyssa a hug and made her blush.

We also saw a beautiful bull sleeping.

Wordless Wednesday: Declutter, Sell, and Pack

This post is late, but a picture is worth a thousand words. I've been soooo busy trying to declutter, sell items, and pack for an upcoming move. These are pictures of a few areas in my home at this time. Yikes!

Wordless Wednesday: Monkey Business

My daughter and I visited the Snake Farm in New Braunfels, Texas this past weekend. The baby Capuchin Monkey was the attraction of the day! She hung on tightly to her caregiver. She was wearing a teeny tiny diaper.

Isn't she adorable?

Wordless Wednesday: Froggy Love

Look closely at the frog's legs. She is high up on my door window. She is saying "I Love You."

Pay close attention to the unexpected small things we may overlook in life. This happened to be an unusually busy and hectic day. I glanced over and saw it. I immediately giggled and thought what a humorous way for God to say, "I love you."

A Blast from the Past: Work It Girl!

I was looking through old photos and came across these hilarious pictures. They were taken exactly 6 years ago on this date, but at our old house. I was working out using my Turbo Jam videos. Alyssa heard the music and came running into the room. She LOVED music and dancing . . . she still does. She decided to join me. Basically, she plopped right in front of the screen. I remember the day so clearly and I'm glad I caught it on camera. Maybe it'll bring a smile to your face today and encourage you to check out older photos you have stored on your computer.

Take a look into the past.

Wordless Wednesday: Recital Dance Costumes

Busy ... busy ... busy. That's the word that describes this week which is why I forgot to post my Wordless Wednesday post on time.

Alyssa's dance costumes arrived and the teacher scheduled an informal photo shoot at the studio. Here are a few shots I managed to capture of Alyssa (Age 7 1/2) from the session.

Do you like her costumes? I think the white fringe one is my favorite. LOVE her smiles!

Field Trip Friday: Earth Day Library Celebration

Alyssa and I went to the library for a field trip last week. There was an Earth Day Celebration planned for the day from 10-3pm. She wasn't feeling well, but was eager to get out of the house so we decided to go at the last minute. I am glad that we did because we had a wonderful time. I'll just share a few pics with you from our experience. I didn't take pictures from every station.

Sand Observations
This was by far one of Alyssa's favorite stations. She truly enjoyed observing different types of sand collected from around the world through the microscope. She was fascinated with this activity! The lady in charge said that her students would bring in samples from vacations they've taken.

Baby Raccoons
What a thrilling experience! We had the opportunity to pet and hold baby raccoons for the first time. So adorable! This one was sucking on the blanket. We also saw a rescued painted turtle and an opossum.

Recycled Spoon Art
This arts and crafts activity utilized yarn, spoons, fabric, and other craft materials that were thrown out, given away, or purchased inexpensively. The lady taught the children how to use items that others consider trash to create crafts.

Bird Beak Stations
This was a cool activity! I remember doing stations similar to these when I taught 2nd grade. Even though the sun was shining in her eyes, Alyssa insisted on finishing the activity.
The sun was right in her eyes.
Animal Skulls and Skins
Alyssa identified the skulls that belong to certain animals. She also observed the teeth from several skills in order to figure out what kind of food they eat.

Butterfly and Ant Lifecycle Stencil Fun
Children used stencils to create beautiful butterflies showing the lifecycle stages. They also gathered information about butterfly migration and received a plastic insect figurine.

Microscopic Observations:
Beetles and, Moths, and Butterflies
My daughter LOVES her microscope. I knew this activity would be a big hit, because it was combined with her curiosity for insects.

Made a Antler Necklace
Children spoke with a gentleman about the types of deer, their antlers, and created an antler necklace. He also showed Alyssa old tools and weapons made from the past including spears, bow and arrows, etc.

Plant a Bean
She decorated the cup and and planted a pinto bean. It is sitting on our kitchen window sill right now. She was jumping for joy today when she noticed it started to grow.

Thank you for visiting A Learning Journey! See ya again real soon! I will link this post up at Chestnut Grove Academy's Field Trip Friday and Life at Rossmont's Wordless (Wordy) Wednesday.
